Retail investor

A retail investor is an individual who invests in the financial markets for their own personal account and not on behalf of an institution or organization. Retail investors typically trade in smaller quantities than institutional investors and may use a variety of investment vehicles such as stocks, bonds, mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), options, and futures. Retail investors may also seek advice from financial advisors or online resources to help make investment decisions.
