Hit the bid

In finance and trading, the phrase “hit the bid” means to sell a security or other financial asset at the bid price, which is the highest price that a buyer is currently willing to pay for the asset. Essentially, this means that the seller is accepting the highest current offer for the asset. The opposite of hitting the bid is “lifting the offer,” which means to buy an asset at the asking price, which is the lowest price that a seller is currently willing to accept.
