Greenback

“Greenback” is a colloquial term used to refer to the U.S. dollar. The term originated during the American Civil War when the U.S. government issued paper currency that had a green tint on the back, hence the name “greenback.” Today, the term is still used to refer to the U.S. dollar, particularly in the context of foreign exchange trading.
